ABOUT US

EN KOKKE is a family-run design studio for architecture, interiors and objects, rooted in making culture and shaped by several generations of practice.

Within the studio, different disciplines, generations and qualities come together. Design, engineering, form and making form one continuous process. Knowledge and experience guarantee that the design process results in a successful outcome.

Our work operates at the intersection of heritage and contemporary architecture, with close attention to craftsmanship, industrial precision and realisation.
We regularly work on national monuments and cultural heritage buildings, including the Council Chamber of Arnhem and the Orangerie of Slot Zeist. Alongside this, we realise projects in the public realm, such as a recent iconical busstation, a façade steelwork for Little C in Rotterdam, awarded Best Building of 2022, and the gates and railings at Olympiaplein in Amsterdam, recognised with the Dutch Design Award.

Steel and wood form the core of our work. We design structures, interiors and objects in which material, detail and structure are central.

  • We guide projects from first sketch through to production

  • Coordinate with heritage and planning authorities

  • Remain closely involved until completion

  • Engineering, planning and budget as an integral part of the design process

Within EN KOKKE, multiple generations work together. Experience, design and execution meet daily around one table. This gives the work continuity, precision and a natural coherence.

A number of works by Ruud-Jan Kokke and Petra Hartman are included in the collections of MoMA New York, the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, the Stedelijk Museum and the Rijksmuseum.

Ruud-Jan has worked on numerous cultural and public projects, including the Council Chamber of Arnhem, the Orangerie of Slot Zeist and a wide range of gates, railings and urban interventions.

His work has been recognised with awards such as the Dutch Design Award for the Olympiaplein gates in Amsterdam and the Best Building Award 2022 for Little C / Coolhaven in Rotterdam.

Petra Hartman

Artist

Petra Hartman is an artist working at the intersection of autonomous art, applied art and spatial design. Her practice is rooted in painting and sculpture and extends into objects and site-specific works that are often developed in close relation to architecture.

Within EN KOKKE, Petra collaborates on projects where art becomes part of the spatial and architectural composition. From early design stages, she develops artistic interventions, interior artworks and custom elements that contribute to the identity and atmosphere of buildings.
Key works include the carpet of Arnhem City Hall and the floating rooms of The Church in Arnhem.

Alongside her collaborative practice, Petra maintains an extensive autonomous body of work. Her work has been exhibited internationally and is held in public and private collections, including the Rijksmuseum and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.
