Ruud-Jan Kokke

A design is only successful when a balance has been achieved between material, form and use. At the same time, the user or viewer must be surprised and engaged.
 
His designs, despite – or perhaps precisely because of – their simplicity and clarity, inevitably draw attention and invite a strong aesthetic response.
In addition to autonomous products, Ruud-Jan Kokke collaborates with architects and other design disciplines on the interiors of schools, companies, government buildings and public spaces. In these projects he proves to be a flexible partner with deep knowledge of the complexity of design and development processes.
Within the inevitable dynamic of give and take that characterises such commissions, he manages to preserve the essence of his design. Kokke describes himself as a builder, with extensive knowledge of and affection for materials and construction techniques. Always innovative, never driven by trend. His work has been awarded nationally and internationally. Several of his designs are already regarded as design classics and are included in the collections of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
